Spathodea plants commonly known as the African tulip tree is an evergreen or semi-deciduous tree of the Bignoniaceae family, with pinnate leaves divided into oblong to ovate, leathery, dark green leaflets and, in spring and summer, panicles or racemes of bell-shaped, scarlet flowers with yellow petal margins it can grow from 10 – 35 meters tall. The wood is difficult to burn, so the tree is also valuable for fire-resistant landscaping.
